Well, here we are in February already! The weather has been a bit wild so far this winter, so I’ve been staying inside working away on a few things. I have a number of classes coming up which I will be teaching for the Ottawa Old Forge rug hooking guild. One of which will be a workshop that I am helping my husband with where he is going to talk about making framing choices for rug hooking. He has been my custom framer since I began working with hooked fibre 11 years ago so he has a ton of experience with this so it is going to be a really fun class!
I’m also prepping for several sessions with school kids. I love going into the schools and exposing kids to fibre art. It is something that is really lacking from the education curriculum and something that kids really take to so it is always a really fun time.
I have been doing a lot of experimentation with techniques. My intention is that these small pieces will lead to bigger works in the future. I am working towards a couple of exhibit opportunities so I’m trying to work out the kinks with things on a smaller scale before venturing bigger. I’m really excited about the direction that my work is going in!
I’ve also been working away on my second book. Book number one will be published this October- I cannot wait to share it with all of you.
I did want to let you know that between now and Valentine’s Day my PDF course ‘Hand Woven & Hand Hooked: Creating Woven Backgrounds for Hooked Fibre Art’ is on sale for 10% off. You can use the coupon code YARNLOVE at the checkout to get the discount and you can find that PDF here. My daughter and I worked hard on this course to ensure that it contains everything you need to know to combine weaving and hooking, and is fully illustrated. In the 47 pages of this document you will learn how to weave a backing, how to select yarns for weaving and hooking, tips and tricks for hooking with yarn, and ideas for hooking on a woven backing. When you purchase it you will be able to download it automatically and get started right away. I hope it gets you as excited for this combination of mediums as I am!
