Took off for the Thanksgiving weekend to Lake Placid, New York. Glorious weekend full of great weather, terrific views (loved our apartment/hotel- totally worth the splurge), outlet store shopping, visiting Olympic venues, people watching, a bizarre scenic train ride and lots of family time full of love and laughter.
It is my new intention to try to post every Friday a photo of something that I have come across that gives me inspiration in my art. That’s the intention anyway….
Today’s photo is from a walk the Little Miss and I took the other week through the woods. We came across this fungus on a dead log lying on the forest floor. My sister had just been raving of the beauty of “tree fungus” when she was here last and to be honest, I thought she was a little crazy. And then I saw this fungus- look at all the shades of green, the shapes and the textures. Definitely something I can see myself trying to replicate, perhaps in one of my small framed pieces. Or p erhaps just replicating the shapes and patterns into something more abstract.
To everyone in Canada, Happy Thanksgiving this weekend!
Arteast (a group of artists that I belong to here in Ottawa) is having a juried awards exhibition and I have two pieces in it! Both Krisuvik, Iceland and Iles-de-la-Madeleine are currently on display at the St. Laurent Complex, 525 Cote Street (off St. Laurent Boulevard). The exhibition runs from now until Friday, October 29th so stop by and check it out if you get a chance. Admission is free- the pieces are on display along the main hallway. Mine are displayed in the glass case located at the end of the hallway. There are about 80 different pieces on display so definitely lots to see!
Here are a few pictures of my pieces on display:
